during our trip to Berbera, we had the immense pleasure of visiting Berbera Port and meeting with the DP World team. We were given a comprehensive tour of the port and witnessed firsthand the impressive operations taking place. We extend our gratitude to the young Somalilanders leading key roles in the management and administration of this vital port — a powerful reflection of local talent and responsibility. We also thank DP World for giving these youth the opportunity to grow, lead, and set examples for the future. Berbera has long served — and continues to serve — as a strategic hub for trade and security in the Horn of Africa, the Middle East, and the world. Its legacy as an ancient center of commerce is being revived with modern ambition and infrastructure. We were proud to explore how our main port functions — handling cargo, enabling trade, and delivering vital services to the region. This is what believing in Somaliland could result in. Thanks to DP World for once again having the courage to invest in Somaliland — and we are confident that this is only the beginning. More will come...

During our trip to Berbera, we had the chance to visit the new Berbera Municipality building — proudly designed and built by experienced Somaliland youth, and fully funded by the people’s tax. It was refreshing to see such progress driven by local talent and public contribution. Berbera is clearly moving forward, one step at a time.

Today, our Chairman, Secretary General, and several members paid a visit to our esteemed partner — the Hargeysa Cultural Center — as they enter the final preparations for hosting the renowned Xarunta Dhaqanka ee Hargeysa. We were warmly received by the Director General, Dr. Jama Musse Jama, who shared insights into the ongoing preparations and informed us that the announcement of our panel session at this year’s Fair will be released very soon. We’re proud to be part of this long-standing success story — a platform that brings together sharp minds, diverse voices, and a deep celebration of African thought, art, and identity. This year’s theme: AFRICA – The Africa We Want We encourage the people of Hargeisa and beyond to take part, attend the sessions, and especially join us during our panel. See you at HIBF 2025!

Today, we had the distinct honour of being received by the remarkable #Edna Adan at her office. Listening to her wisdom, reflections, and timeless advice was a moment of deep learning and inspiration for all of us. We were also privileged to walk through the halls of Edna Adan Hospital — a place where countless lives have been saved, and where hope continues to be born each day for the people of Somaliland. As part of our visit, we had the pleasure of presenting her with a Certificate of Appreciation — a recognition we had intended to offer during our recent anniversary, in honour of her continued support to our journey and mission. We are truly grateful for her generosity, her time, and above all, her enduring legacy. A legacy that lights the path for generations to come — and one that reminds us all of the power of service, resilience, and vision. May her journey continue to inspire ours.

We at the Somaliland Youth Ambassadors Council( SOYAC ) are pleased to have met with Sir Gavin Williamson, a longtime friend and staunch advocate for Somaliland’s recognition in the UK Parliament. Our discussion focused on the ongoing efforts in both the United Kingdom and the United States, including the vital work being done by the APPG on Somaliland and the recent momentum driven by the Trump-aligned movement in Washington calling for formal recognition. We sincerely thank Sir Gavin for his continued support and for receiving us warmly. His leadership remains an inspiration for youth and institutions working toward Somaliland’s rightful place in the international community.

Last night, SOYAC had the privilege of hosting Sharmake Geelle, Deputy Ambassador of Somaliland’s Diplomatic Mission in Kenya and former Chairperson of the Civil Service Institution. Our discussions were both insightful and inspiring. We delved into Somaliland-Kenya relations, highlighting how Kenya, a beacon of democracy and institutional strength in the Horn of Africa, reflects Somaliland's aspirations for stability and recognition. We explored how diplomacy can empower Somaliland's youth, aligning their energy with our nation's foreign policy objectives, and examined the geopolitics of the Horn and Africa, focusing on how competition between Western powers and emerging nations shapes the region's future. Ambassador Geelle's wealth of experience, from serving in Somaliland’s presidency to his current diplomatic role, enriched the conversation and inspired new ideas for SOYAC’s initiatives. His contributions will undoubtedly help us engage more effectively with Somaliland's mission on the global stage. We look forward to sharing these insights with our fellow youth and hosting more leaders who can guide us toward a brighter future for Somaliland.
